Questions, answered

Campaign FAQ

Clear rules protect students, supporters and EFF’s charitable mission.

Who may apply?

Currently enrolled or accepted college students preparing for Fall 2026 may apply. EFF verifies eligibility and enrollment before publishing a profile.

Does applying guarantee approval or an award?

No. Submission does not guarantee approval, publication, or an award. EFF reviews applications on a rolling basis and may request more information.

How are votes counted?

Every whole dollar in a successfully completed and verified contribution equals one campaign vote. A browser success page never counts a vote; Stripe payment confirmation does.

Does a student receive the money shown on their profile?

No. Contributions support EFF's Fall Student Success Fund. Contestants do not own profile donations and awards are distributed under the official rules.

What happens after a refund or dispute?

Associated verified votes are reduced or removed. If disputed funds are later reinstated, eligible votes may be restored.

Are contributions tax deductible?

Retain your receipt and consult a qualified tax professional about your individual circumstances. EFF does not provide personal tax advice.
